A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Taylor Rutland officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Deborah Elaine Hammons, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on February 28, 1955, in Atmore, Alabama, Deborah was known for her gentle spirit, faith-filled heart, and dedication to her family.
Deborah attended Faulkner State Community College, where she developed her passion for numbers and problem-solving. She later went on to become a financial analyst for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, where she retired after years of service. Her expertise and dedication to her work were highly valued by her colleagues, and she was an integral part of the organization's success.
Deborah was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore for many years before moving to First Baptist Church of Dothan in retirement, where she grew in her faith and found solace in the community. Her faith remained a driving force throughout her life, guiding her actions and decisions, and inspiring those around her.
Deborah was a loving and dedicated wife to her husband, Leo I Hammons, III. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their daughter, Jessica (Greg) Outlaw. Deborah's love for her family extended to her cherished grandchildren, Leianna and Dillon Outlaw, for whom she enjoyed sewing and creating special memories. She also shared a special bond with her brother, Lamar Holmes, who was a constant source of support and love.
Deborah had a deep appreciation for nature and found joy in watching hummingbirds dance around her garden. She looked forward to spending time with her family in the mountains, where they would explore, hike, and create lasting memories. These moments were treasured by Deborah and will be remembered fondly by her loved ones.
Deborah will be remembered for her loving nature, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will serve as a source of strength and inspiration for her family and friends.
Deborah is survived by her husband, Leo I Hammons, III; daughter, Jessica (Greg) Outlaw; grandchildren, Leianna and Dillon Outlaw; brother, Lamar Holmes; and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
As we celebrate the life of Deborah Elaine Hammons, we remember the love, laughter, and light she brought into the world. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
