Demaris E. Johnson of Geneva passed away at Wiregrass Nursing Home on Thursday, October 29, 2015. She was 94. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015, at Devco Baptist Church with Rev. Olan Strickland, officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to your favorite charity.
Mrs. Johnson was born in the Goodman Community in Coffee County, Ala. on August 10, 1921, to the late James M. Bedsole and Ibeona Weeks Bedsole. She was a longtime member of Devco Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson retired from Phillips-Van Heusen. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, reading, fishing and playing music. Her husband, James E. “Red” Johnson; a grandson, William Donnie Judah, Jr.; and five of her siblings preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters Joanne Messer of Geneva and Virginia Judah (Don) of Havana, Fla.; two grandchildren, Debra Messer of Pensacola, Fla. and Douglas Messer of Geneva; sister, Burma Bowdoin of Navarre, Fla; and several nieces and nephews.
