Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 12, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Traylor and grandson Dustin Lee officiating. Military honors will be rendered at Sunset Memorial Park. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.

Dennis Elwood Lee, Sr., a resident of Newton, AL, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at his residence. He was 90 years old.


Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 12, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Traylor and grandson Dustin Lee officiating. Military honors will be rendered at Sunset Memorial Park. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.


Mr. Lee was born on June 28, 1932 in Plant City, Florida and lived his early life there. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean war. He was later stationed at Ft. Rucker and honorably discharged in 1954. Mr. Lee started his career in aircraft maintenance as a helicopter mechanic, and later advanced to helicopter inspector with 43 years of total service until retiring in 1997 from Ft. Rucker. Mr. Lee loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and was known to dote over his late wife of 65 years, Rheunell McCord Lee. Mr. Lee coached recreational league baseball at Doug Tew for several years. His final year of coaching, his all-star team were the runner-up at the Dixie Major World Series in Laurel, MS. He was a charter member at Central Baptist Church where he also served as Minister of Music.


Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Lee Smith; brothers, Robert Lee, Alfred Lee and Ted Lee; and sister, Ruth Anderson.


Survivors include his sons, Dennis (Francie) Lee, Jr. and David (Lynn) Lee; daughter, Dawn Lee Parks; sister, Edith Howard; sister-in-law, Joyce McCord; grandchildren, Trae Lee (Alex), Bryant Lee (Kristina), Kayla (Kevin) Capra, Richard (Cheryl) Parks, Aaron Parks (Erika), Timothy Parks (Ceara), Dustin Lee (Danielle), Drew Lee (Lindsey), and Cody Lee (Madison); his great-grandchildren, Ashton Parks, Brailynn Parks, Connor Parks, Elan Parks, Annalise Parks, Ryker Parks, Kenadee Morrow, Makynlee White, Reid Lee, Owen Lee, Blake Lee, Kate Lee, Brady Lee, Byrdie Lee, Andrew Lee and Annie Lee; several nieces and nephews also survive.


The family would also like to recognize dear friends of Mr. Lee, Sandra Helms, Annette McKnight and Cecelia Wager. The family would like to give special thanks to Brett and Sharissa of Kindred Hospice.


Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Trae Lee, Bryant Lee, Drew Lee, Cody Lee, Aaron Parks, and Timothy Parks.
