ASHFORD. . .Dewey Jordan Sanders, a resident of Ashford, died Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2020, in a Dothan hospital. He was 72.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2020, in the Ashford City Cemetery with Brother Johnny Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Jordan Sanders was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Comer Sanders and Bonnie Money Sanders. He was a 1966 graduate of Headland High School and served his country in the Army Reserve in the Dothan unit. Jordan was a member of the New Zion Free Will Baptist Church.
Jordan was retired as the Owner and Operator of Sanders Cable Splicing Company. In earlier years, he was employed by GTE for twenty-five years. Jordan served as a member of the Board of Directors of Ashford Academy where he also served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Board. He devoted years of service to the school in numerous capacities. Jordan was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Peek.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Jane Waters Sanders; two daughters, Sharla Sanders, Ashford; and Tina Green (Jason), Spanish Fort, AL; a son, Dwayne Sanders (Ginger), Webb, AL; two sisters, Peggy White (John), Dothan; and Teresa Kirkland, Waverly Park, GA; three brothers, George White, Oklahoma City, OK; Johnny Mack Sanders, Carrollton, GA; and Don Sanders (Deicy), Dothan; four grandchildren, Jordan Sanders, Morgan Sanders Watkins (Derek), Madison Green, and Mason Green; a great-grandson, Brady Watkins; an aunt, Sarah Shiver, Dothan.
