Dexter Gene Hansel, 64, of Dothan lost his battle for life at Flowers Hospital on November 19, 2011.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Singletary officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Hansel was born May 6, 1947 in Blount County, AL and lived the early part of his life there. He moved to Prattville, AL prior to moving to Dothan in 1961. He owned and operated Hansel’s Auto Sales and Southeast Alabama Auto Auction for 45 years. Mr. Hansel was an antique car collector and was a former member of the Elks and Shriners, as well as an active member of the Alabama Auto Dealers Association. Mr. Hansel was preceded in death by his daughter Donna Hansel.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Patricia Hansel; a brother R.D. Hansel; sisters, Nell Hansel and Lou Little; sister-in-law Christine Beasley; children, Danny Hansel, Dawn and Leigh Hansel, Dewayne and Beverly Hansel, Deanna and Bradley Phelps; grandchildren, Bethany and Daniel Oliver, Mark Bond, Taylor Hansel, Ashton Hansel, Whitney Phillips, Hayden Phelps, and Jaylee Hansel; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kamryn Oliver.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Hansel, Dawn Hansel, Mark Bond, Daniel Oliver, Randy Sasser, and Chris Childree.
