Mr. Donald D. Wilsdorf, Sr. (Don) of Dothan, Alabama, passed away October 21, 2011, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born October 28, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Jeanette Pumphrey of Marianna, Florida on June 28, 1952. They enjoyed a 59 year romance and raised three children.


Don lived most of his life in Dothan, Al. He was a veteran of World War II.


Don was a graphics artist for the United States Army civil service for over thirty years. Following retirement, he continued his hobby of drawing and painting and then developed a passion for wood crafting, creating lovely pieces for family and friends. Through the years, Don spent time volunteering with many organizations including Dothan American Dixie Youth Baseball, Dothan Botanical Gardens, RSVP and the Rose Society.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011, at 1 P. M. from the Chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Elder Cary Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, Marianna, Fl. with Ward Wilson Funeral Home Directing.


The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 12 until 1 P. M., one hour prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dothan Botannical Gardens, 5130 Headland, Avenue, Dothan, AL or Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1231 Fortner St, Dothan, AL, 36301.


Mr. Wilsdorf was preceded in death by has parents, Harriet and E. C. (Bill) Wilsdorf.


Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Pumphrey Wilsdorf and three children: Donna (Glen) Cook of Milford, OH: Shirley (Todd) Jeffcoat of Tuscaloosa, AL; and Don (Joy) Wilsdorf of Killen, AL; three granddaughters: Kristin (Daniel) Pate of Tuscaloosa, AL; Caley  (Tony) Gill of Tuscaloosa, AL;  Tori Wilsdorf of Killen, AL; two grandsons: Tyler Wilsdorf of Vilseck, Germany, and Tucker Wilsdorf of Killen, AL; three great grandchildren:  Max and Caroline Pate and Gabe Gill; two step granddaughters:  Katherine Cook and Jennifer Pifer, and step great-grandson David Pifer.  He was an only child and considered Jeanette’s brothers and sisters as his own.


 


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians involved with his care, the staff of both the Critical Care Unit and 4 East at SEAMC, as well as Gentiva Hospice.  We would also like to thank AlaCare who provided wonderful services maintaining his health and allowing him to stay at home as long as possible.
