Donald "Don" James Richards of Dothan passed away Friday, August 12, 2022. Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Family First Funeral Care officiated by Pastor Brad Richards, Larry McKay and Star Clark. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. followed by a private burial.
He was born May 6, 1947 to Esker and Kathleen Bruce Richards of Dothan. He spent most of his life living in Echo, Alabama. After his wife Linda passed, he continued to raise their grandchildren (Tina, Brent, Joey and Star). Don graduated from Rehobeth High School in the 60s. He was drafted and stayed a part of the Army Reserve for 7 years. He graduated from trade school. He worked at Pensacola Journal, Dothan Eagle, Montgomery Ward and lastly Allied Motion for 22 years. Don was diagnosed with a terminally ill disease in January of 2022.
Don always worked hard his entire life. Family time and peace are what made him smile. He shares memories and bonds with many people. He made an impact on someones life daily. Don had a wonderful sense of humor. He could fix just about anything that had a motor. His nickname was Pa Don or papa Don. He was more than a blessing in the lives that were close to him. Don made the best of the last few months he was living. He never stopped fighting until it was time for him to finally rest.
Don is preceded in death by parents; wife Linda Richards; step son Brian Wilkerson; Brother Bruce Richards; great granddaughter Ashlynne, son in law Walt Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories step daughter Roxie Johnson; grandchildren Tina, Brent, Joey Clark and also, Star Clark who was his caregiver; great grandchildren Karmen, Jackson and Kamrynn.
