Donald Cline



            Retired Colonel Donald Herbert Cline, a five year resident of Dothan, was called to heaven from his home on July 2, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years and two of his daughters.  Donald, formerly of Oceanside, CA, served 26 years with the United States Army and upon retirement took the position as the President of the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA. He also was a member of numerous service organizations.



            COL Don, as he liked to be called, was born July 19, 1933 in Beaver Falls, PA. After high school he and his family moved to Los Angeles, CA and shortly after received a Congressional appointment to U.S. Military Academy. Upon graduation, Donald married and started his successful military career that included numerous assignments including Germany, Hawaii, and two tours in Vietnam. 



            He is survived by his wife Gloria; daughter Jennifer and husband John Campbell of Utah, son Jeffery and wife Lori of Minnesota, daughter Karen and husband Jeffry Jackson of Headland, daughter Mary and husband Chris Buck of Georgia; grandchildren, Hannah and husband Trent Jakelsky, Sarah and husband Russell Champion, Marissa and Ashlee Cline, Kyle and Kayla Buck; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Margaret Jakelsky.



            Visitation with the family will start at 1:30 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Dothan on Friday, July 19, 2013 followed by a Celebration of Life gathering in honor of his 80th birthday at his residence in Dothan.



            In lieu of food and flowers, donations can be made to Covenant Hospice of Dothan or the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
