Donald LeRoy Siler, known affectionately to friends and family as Don, passed away on October 19, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of 73. Born on December 5, 1950, in Dinuba, California, Donald's life was characterized by his adventurous spirit, kindness, and innate ability to befriend everyone he met.
Don's early years were spent in the sunny climes of California, where he cultivated a love for sports and the outdoors. He channeled his passion for adventure into his education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business from Reedley College. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a vibrant career that would see him excel as a Golf Pro Specialist at a prestigious country club in California. Don's career was marked not only by his professional success but also by the countless friendships he forged on the greens.
A man of many talents, Don possessed a pilot's license, which allowed him to soar above the clouds, exploring the skies with the same zest with which he approached all his endeavors. His love for golf was only matched by his passion for fishing, a pastime that provided him with both relaxation and excitement. Don was a sports fanatic through and through, his enthusiasm for the game infectious, and his knowledge extensive.
In 2006, Don's life was further enriched when he married his beloved wife, Linda. The couple's journey took them from California to South Alabama, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Don's role as a family man was one he cherished deeply. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and his children, Amanda Siler (James Wiley), Richard Schneider (Stacie), and Michael Carlson (Megan). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Odin Wiley, Tanner Carlson, Bailey Carlson, and Morgan Carlson, who will forever cherish the memories of their doting grandfather.
Don was a devoted brother to James and Toby Siler and a cherished uncle to Allison, Kim, and Damon Siler. His family was a source of great pride and joy, and he often regaled friends with tales of their accomplishments and escapades. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Stella Siler, whose values and love shaped the remarkable man he became.
Throughout his life, Don never met a stranger. His friendly demeanor and genuine interest in others won him the affection and respect of all who knew him. Don's adventurous nature led him to embrace life's challenges with a smile, and his kindness ensured that he left a lasting impact on the hearts of those around him.
