DONALD MURRAY McGRIFF, JR.
HEADLAND. . .Donald Murray McGriff, Jr., a resident of Headland, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at his home. He was 90.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 22, 2017, in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend Misty Barrett officiating, a eulogy to be given by Bobby Hamil, and remarks including flag presentation by Lt. Colonel (Retired) Jeff Slaker. The family will receive friends following the memorial services in the Family Life Center of the church. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Headland United Methodist Church or to the Headland Methodist Cemetery Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. McGriff was a lifelong resident of Headland. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. McGriff was an active member of the Headland United Methodist Church and the Curry Woods Men’s Bible Class. He was also a member of the Brown’s Crossroads Masonic Lodge No. 529 and was the recipient of a fifty year pin. He was retired from Seaboard Coast Line as an Engineer. Mr. McGriff was preceded in death by his father, Donald Murray McGriff, Sr, his mother, Lila Mae Drew Hodges, his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Brake McGriff, a sister, Martha Kate Whiddon, and his step-father, Charles Albert Hodges.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sandra Langley (Ricky), Blakely, GA; and Kellie McGriff, Deatsville, AL; a son, Don McGriff, III (Lori Ann), Hartford, AL; a sister, Jeanine McGriff Henderson, Tifton, GA; a brother-in-law, Durell Whiddon, Headland; three grandchildren, Tara Langley Sumner (Michael), Statesboro, GA; Kathryn Langley, Buford, GA; and Hayden Byrd, Dothan; three great-grandchildren, Daniel McGriff Sumner, Brantley Middleton Sumner and Paxton Dooley Sumner, all of Statesboro, GA; several much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
