ABBEVILLE. . .  Donald Wayne Armstrong, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, June 26, 2012, at his home. He was 65.




            Celebration of Life services will be held at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Kelly, Reverend Dianne Kelly and Reverend Robert C. Yawn officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Thursday in the Abbeville United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.




            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville United Methodist Church “Choir Fund” or “Building Fund”, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, Alabama 36310.




            Wayne Armstrong was born and reared in Shorterville. He was a 1965 graduate of Abbeville High School and attended Wallace Community College and also UCLA at Fort Rucker. Wayne served his country in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. He was an active member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as Chairman of the Administrative Board. Wayne was a long time member of the church choir and was the leader of the By The Cross gospel group. He owned and operated City Barber Shop in Abbeville for the past forty-four years and was known as the area’s only barber. Wayne was devoted to his customers travelling many miles to serve those who were unable to come to him. He was devoted to his church and his family and was greatly loved by his family and many friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Martin Armstrong.


 



            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sandy Armstrong, Abbeville; two daughters, Mandy Armstrong Roberson (Ritchie), Midland City; and Megan Armstrong Yarbrough (Zac), Headland; a granddaughter, Reagan Claire Yarbrough; his mother, Annie Frank Mills Armstrong, Abbeville; three sisters, Jo Ann Bagwell (Paul), Napier Field; Dolly Grantham (Mitchell), Ozark; Susan Hudspeth (Jimmy), Dothan; a brother, Bill Armstrong (Lucky), Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.




            Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Herndon, David Money, Dale Ezzell, Chris Money, Chuck Trawick, Derek Peterson, Dan Webster, Mickey Walker and Will Maddox.
