ABBEVILLE. . . Donald Wayne Simons, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, August 1, 2017, in a Dothan Hospital. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, August 4, 2017, in the Shorterville Baptist Church with Reverend Mickey Skinner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Friday in the church sanctuary.
Mr. Simons was born and reared in Michigan, son of the late Willis and Maude Simons. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He returned to Abbeville in 1978. Mr. Simons was formerly employed by Farmer’s Tire as a mechanic. He was a member of Lakeside Christian Fellowship. Mr. Simons was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Adair Mayo Simons, two sons, Stephen Wayne Simons and Donald Ray Simons, a sister, Ruth Simons, and two brothers, Russell and Dale Simons.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Brenda Hunter (Dimas Falgado), Green Castle, Indiana; Charlotte McCullough (Tim McCoy), Abbeville; and Donna Buxton (Jason), Spring City, Tennessee; three sons, Keith Simons, Abbeville; Carey Dennis (Linda), Danville, Virginia; and Russell Simons (Elaine), Dothan; a sister, Naomi Howard, Nova Scotia; nine grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
