Donathon Carnes Olliff, 88, of Tallahassee, passed away on November 23, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie (Johnson) Olliff in 2017; his parents, Otho and Hettie Olliff; brother, Keeland; and sister, Mildred.

Survivors include his son, Gregory Keith Olliff (Joyce) of Dallas, TX; his daughter, Karen Kyle (William) of Tallahassee, FL; niece, Debbie Olliff Kendrick (Ronnie) of Ashford, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was born in Houston County, Alabama and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Auburn University and his Doctorate from the University of Florida.

Don was a former Foreign Service Officer in Tijuana, Mexico and Vice Consul in Karachi, Pakistan. He taught history at Columbus College in Columbus, GA and Latin American and World History at Auburn University until his retirement to Florida in 1998.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alachua before relocating to Tallahassee. He was also a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed many hobbies including rock hounding, wood-working, puzzles of all kinds and reading.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 9th, at Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 3250 S. Rocky Creek Rd., Ashford, AL 36312. Interment will be at a later date at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the restoration fund for the old Dupree School House @ Dupree Community Friendship, 3065 S. Rocky Creek Rd., Ashford, AL 36312. Lifesong of Tallahassee (
