DORA RUTH KIRKLAND BOND


MT. OLIVE, ALABAMA… Dora Ruth Kirkland Bond, a resident of Mt. Olive, Alabama, passed away late Monday evening, October 14, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent East hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She was 88.


          Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J.C. Standland and Elder Roger Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Elder Clayton Nowell and Elder Thomas Earl Bond officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.


          Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in Mrs. Bond honor to Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 1947 Broad Street, Headland, Alabama 36345.


          Mrs. Bond was born in Dale County, Alabama to the late Ambus Uriah Mack Kirkland and Nettie B. Kirkland. She worked at West Point Pepperell from 1957 until 1975. She then worked at Southern Living Magazine from 1975 until 1996. She was a member of the Liberty Primitive Baptist Church in Dora, Alabama.


She was known as Darlin to her loving husband of sixty-seven years. Mrs. Bond was known as Mother by her two sons, Momma by her daughter, Grandmomma, Great-Grandmomma and Great-Grandmymomma. Mrs. Ruth was always praying for family and making sure that they never wanted for anything. She always put her family first. She was a true servant of God and her love for Him was seen in her actions and her service to other people.


          Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister & brother-in-law, Mary Lee Edward (John T.); her brothers & sisters-in-law, Paul Kirkland (Jessie Mae), Major Kirkland (Thelma), Alvin Kirkland (Ann), O’Neal Kirkland, and Spurgeon Kirkland.


          Leaving to cherish her memories are her husband, Rufus Bond; her daughter, Kathy Moon (Michael) of Gardendale, AL; her sons, Bruce Bond (Sharon) of Trussville, AL and Dennis Bond (Shannon) of Morris, AL; her brother, Reverend Thomas Kirkland (Barbara); her grandchildren, Christopher Bond (Leah), Steven Bond (Gosia), Andrea Butterfield (Gabe), Monica Williams (Everton), Tyler Bowden (Candace), Alan Bond (Katie), Amanda Buschman (Justin), Dean Stovall (Michele), Emily Patterson (Hunter); her twenty great-grandchildren; her 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her several cousins, nieces, and nephews.


          Serving as active pallbearers will be Christopher Bond, Steven Bond, Dean Stovall, Alan Bond, John David Bond, and Tyler Bowden.
