DORIS  FARMER  FLOWERS


 


HEADLAND. . .The passing of Doris Flowers removes from the walks of life one of Henry County’s more elderly and well respected citizens. She had been in declining health for some time and her death on Monday, March 5, 2012 was not unexpected. She was 96 years old.


 


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 10, 2012, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Winford Gulledge officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P. M. Saturday at the mortuary.


 


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or Balkum Baptist Church c/o Beulah Morgan, 4153 County Road 56, Headland, AL  36345.


 


            Mrs. Flowers was born August 21, 1915 and was reared in the Bethlehem Community, near Headland, daughter of the late Avery Avalon Farmer and Maude Estelle Davis Farmer. She lived in the Headland area most of her lifetime before moving to Extendicare of Dothan in 2002. Mrs. Flowers was a member of the Balkum Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. Mrs. Flowers was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Milton Flowers, a son, James A. Flowers, a granddaughter, Kathy Sue Pitchford, four sisters, Eloise Armstrong, Hazel Armstrong, Annette Goocher and Marguerite Armstrong Hasty and a brother, Norman Farmer.


 


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Margaret Flowers Pitchford, Headland; Pamela Flowers Hardt and husband, Fred, Naples, FL; two sons, Jerry Flowers and wife, Sylvia, Macon, GA; Robert D. Flowers and wife, Donna, Alexis, IL; a daughter in law, Ruth Flowers, Macon, GA; sisters in law, Annette Farmer and Gladys Flowers, both of Dothan; thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
