SHORTERVILLE. . .Doris Hunter Brown, a resident of Shorterville, died Monday night, June 21, 2021, at her home. She was 73.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 24, 2021, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East with Reverend Greg Brown and Reverend Chris Brown officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. Thursday at mortuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Safe Haven Animal Rescue (S.H.A.R.K.), PO Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mrs. Brown was born and reared in Baxley, Georgia, daughter of the late Edsel Ford Hunter, Sr. and Anniebell McNeal Hunter. She lived many years in Baxley and also lived in Waynesboro, Georgia before moving to Shorterville in 2000. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Shorterville Baptist Church. She was retired from the Southern Company at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, near Columbia. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Ammons, a son-in-law, Freddie Bauman, and a sister, Helen Aspenwall.
Surviving relatives include her husband, William Wesley Brown; a daughter, Lisa Carol Bauman, Abbeville; five sons, Robbie Ammons (Christy), Baxley, GA; Drex Brown, Abbeville; Reverend Greg Brown (Reverend Anita Brown), Ozark; Kyle Brown (Valerie), Abbeville; Reverend Chris Brown (Lisa), Echo Community; three sisters, Fay Pittman, Cordele, GA; Lora Carter (Alan), Savannah, GA; Joanne Dowd (James), Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Edsel Ford Hunter, Jr. (Patricia), Baxley, GA; a brother-in-law, Joe Aspenwall; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Joanne Barefoot (Larry), and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Brown (Kaye); numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons.
