Doris Peebles Stump, of Enterprise, Alabama went peacefully to heaven on Monday night, January 5, 2015 in the comfort of her home, with her family by her side. She was 95.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 9, 2015 in the First Baptist Church of Enterprise with Rev. Matt Smith and Rev. Ben Bowden officiating. A visitation with friends and family will be held in the fellowship hall at 12:30 on Friday before the service. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.
Doris was born and reared in the Clopton community of Dale County. She graduated from Dale County High School in Ozark, and from Troy State Teachers College. She taught school in Echo and Midland City, Alabama before beginning a career at Ft. Rucker that spanned from 1944 to 1976. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Enterprise where in her younger days she taught Bible School and GAs. She was a member of the Compassionate Friends Sunday School class which she dearly loved and there made lifelong friends. She had a quick wit, enjoyed life and was so much fun to be around, but foremost she was always concerned for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland Pebbles, Sr. and Bertie Wise Peebles, husband, Leon H. Stump, sister and brother-in-law, Merle and Al Fisher, brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Ann Peebles, Howell and Annie Howard Peebles, Grover C. (Chief) Peebles, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Celia and Chaplain (COL-R) Sonny Moore; grandchildren, Pam Moore Mathias (Steve); Tracy Moore Ray (Mark); Tim Moore (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Bailey Mathias; Chance Mathias; Mark Ray; Harper Ray; Jack Ray; Macy McCall Moore and Sonny Moore; a brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Barbara Peebles; sister-in-law, Joy Peebles; nieces and nephews, Mary Gunter; June Murphy; Vivia Peebles; Alice Elliott; Cleve Peebles; Church Peebles; Clay Peebles; Sandra Sauls and Jeannie Bostic.
