Doris Waters Holland married Lt. William Robertson Waters at the outbreak of World War II.  Bill Waters was a pilot and flight instructor during the war.  Following World War II, Lt. Col. Waters was sent to Germany to serve as a U. S. Army Unit Commander.  Doris joined Bill in Germany with their two children, Linda and Billy.  After several years in Europe, the family returned to the United States. Bill Waters became the first Lincoln-Mercury automobile dealer in Dothan, Alabama, then a small town.  David Anderson Waters was born after the family returned to Dothan, Alabama, where Doris made her home for the rest of her life.  Doris enjoyed bridge and golf and she had many great friends in Dothan.  A great sorrow happened when Bill died suddenly at an early age with a heart attack.  With great sorrow, Doris managed the automobile dealership for several years after Bill’s death.  The dealership was later sold to W. D. Williams.

Doris met James Burwell (Jack) Holland and they were married at the First United Methodist Church in Dothan.  Doris and Jack traveled extensively, frequently with Jackie and Peter McClennen of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  After many years of marriage, Jack Holland died.  Doris continued to live in Dothan with her son David until her death.

Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Alabama, the Tuesday Bridge Club, the Wednesday Ladies Golf Association, and the Thursday Duplicate Bridge Club.  Doris Waters Holland will be missed by her family and friends.
