Dorothy Ann McGilvary Baker, a resident of Clayton, Alabama passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the chapel of Glover Funeral Home in Clayton, Alabama at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Andy McQuagge officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayton, Alabama. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to the Union Baptist Church cemetery fund or a charity of your choice.
Dorothy was born October 29, 1929, in Clayton, Alabama to the late W.H. and Ethel Agnes Land McGilvary. She worked for Cowikee Sock Mill and retired from Phillips-Van Heusen. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and could make anything she put her mind to. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of the Texasville Homemakers Club and Union Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Leamon C. Baker; brother, Billy McGilvary; two sisters, Elizabeth M. Moore and Irene M. Benefield; special niece, Barbara B. Weston; special great-niece Nan W. McQuagge.
Left to cherish her memories are three daughters, Elaine B. Grubbs (Lois) of Pike Road, Alabama, Linda Grubbs (Jerry) of Midway, Georgia, and Debbie B. Garrett (Robert) of Abbeville, Alabama; brother, Fred McGilvary (Elizabeth) of Clayton, Alabama; six grandchildren, Amy Wren (Chris), Kim Bagwell (Todd), Kevin Grubbs (Katrina), Trudi Miller, Curt Garrett, and Dale Garrett (Eron); thirteen great-grandchildren, Haley Wren, Hunter Wren, Halyn Wren, Todd Berrong Jr., Lilly Bagwell, Logan Bagwell, Dillon Caraway, Dalton Caraway, Emma-Grace Caraway, Josh Garrett, Colt Garrett, Cash Garrett, and Peyton Garrett; several nieces and nephews.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are Chris Wren, Curt Garrett, Dale Garrett, Kevin Grubbs, Todd Bagwell, Hunter Wren, Dillon Caraway, and Dalton Caraway.
