Dorothy Cozart
Dorothy Virginia Harris Cozart, 92, passed away on September 11, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Huntsville where she lived for the past twenty-one months.
Dorothy was the daughter of John and Maudie Harris and was born and raised in Slocomb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Ed Cozart; brother, Hoyt Harris and wife Johnnie Esther; three sisters, Gladys Deal and husband Lester, Lois Buckworth and husband Buck, Johnnie Hallford and husband Gene; and her grandson, Randy Dean Elliott.
She was married to her husband of 58 years, the late Rev. Thomas Edward Cozart. They both attended Howard College (now Samford University) before he attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and an active preacher's wife to several churches in southeast Alabama and northwest Florida.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and George Sibble, Huntsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Shalah Cozart, Dothan; granddaughters, Cindy Elliott Brown, Huntsville and Megan Cozart Harrell (Guy) Dothan; step-grandsons, Chris Ashbee, Chicago, IL and Blake Ashbee (Carrie), Atlanta, GA; a step-granddaughter, Deborah Sibble, Huntsville; great-grandchildren, Sarah Brown, Huntsville, Aubrey, Brinley and Logan Harrell, Dothan and Bishop Ashbee, Atlanta, GA.
Also surviving are three brothers, Jimmy Harris, Slocomb, Wallace Harris (Bobbie), Dothan and George Harris (Joan), Murfreesboro, TN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends all over the Tri-State area whom she met during the 53 years of ministry alongside her husband Rev. Edward Cozart.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel, Dothan, AL with Rev. Bradley Rushing officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:45 p.m. on Monday.
