Dorothy Fouts Robinson


 


Dorothy Fouts Robinson, a resident of Dothan, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Flowers Hospital. She was 93.


 


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Allie Freeman and Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Thursday in the church parlor prior to service time. At other times the family will be at the home of a granddaughter, Erin Howell.


 


Mrs. Robinson was born April 20, 1918 in Virden, Illinois to Ralph B. and Mary Lingenfelter Fouts. She lived in Carthage and Macomb, IL and also Beatrice, NE where her father was minister at the Disciples of Christ Christian Churches. In 1935, she graduated from Beatrice High School. She later attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO and Grand Island  Business College in Grand Island, NE. After working a year in offices in Beatrice she moved to Washington, DC to accept a Civil Service position in the Department of Commerce in March of 1938. There she met her husband who worked for the Interstate Commerce Commission. They were married in Beatrice, NE on December 30, 1939 by her father.


 


Dorothy went back to work for the Prince George’s County School System in Maryland in 1961 as Office Manager for 3 elementary schools and 2 principals. She continued working until she retired in 1983 after 22 years of service.


 


Dorothy was very active in the Landover Christian Church in Maryland where she was organist, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Women’s Society and was a member of the official board of the church.


 


Before moving to Alabama, she joined the National Methodist Church, Metropolitan Memorial where she served as secretary of the Administrative Board, the worship committee, and several programs of the church. She continued to live in the family home in Maryland  until 2003 when she moved to Dothan to be with her daughter.


 


Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, C. Rayford Robinson, Jr., her parents, Ralph and Mary Fouts, her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Pletz, her brother, Rev. Dr. James R. Fouts and a brother-in-law, Jack D. Robinson.


 


She is survived by her daughter, Maryann Robinson Horne of Dothan; granddaughter, Erin (Markus) Howell of Dothan; a son, Jeffrey Rayford Robinson (Carol) of Littleton, CO; grandson, Mark Rayford Robinson (Patti) of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren, Sarah Kate and Elijah Howell of Dothan; Paul Rayford and Stacy Jean Robinson of CO; two sisters-in-law, Anita Robinson of Dothan and Joan Fouts of Dillsboro, NC; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
