Dorothy Jolly Stovall born October 7, 1925 in Atlanta, GA, passed away on December 27, 2018 at the age of 93. “Dot” is survived by her loving husband of over 72 years, Lt. Col. (Ret) Thomas Bruce Stovall, Sr. They married February 16, 1946, and went on to have four children: Lt. Col. (Ret) Thomas Bruce Stovall, Jr. (Julia) of Raleigh, NC, Dolly Rowland (Tom), of Houston, TX, Barbara Nones (Edward) of Kenner, LA, and Lt. Col. (Ret) Todd Stovall (Toni) of Dumfries, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Stovall Engert, Julie Rowland Woods, Michael Nones, Victoria Nones, Samantha Stovall, and Sean Stovall, and her one great-grandchild, Finn Woods. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert H. Jolly Sr. and Walta Iris Swinney Jolly, and her siblings, Herbert H. Jolly, Jr., and Ann Jolly Wilkins.

Dorothy worked as a government secretary during World War II, she belonged to bridge clubs over the years, and was active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dothan, AL and a member of “The Pathfinders” Sunday School Class until December 2015. She participated with her husband in POW organization events and trips overseas, as well as the 386th Bomb Group trips to Europe and Stovall Family reunions all over the U.S.

Dot will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother who was a fantastic self-taught cook. She enjoyed caring for her lovely patio plants and did a lot of sewing in her earlier years. Dot was an avid follower of the national news, and with her husband was at times very politically active. She enjoyed ceramic classes and created lovely pieces. Having grown up during the Great Depression, she and her husband were very frugal but always had good food on the table and a warm inviting home. Dorothy was extremely devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren, as well as her own parents before their deaths and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
