Dorothy J. West, of Nauvoo, Alabama passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Dothan.

Memorial services will be held 3 pm Thursday, December 27, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rob Oates officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 pm until 3 pm Thursday.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Sunday, December 30, 2012 in Nauvoo, Alabama at Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Sudduth officiating. Burial will follow in Old King’s School Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 pm until service time Sunday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Old Union Baptist Church, Building Fund, Nauvoo, Alabama or the American Diabetes Association.

Mrs. West was born September 3, 1938 in Jasper, Alabama and she resided in Nauvoo all of her life until moving to Dothan in 2009. Mrs. West was a homemaker and had been employed with Drummond Coal Company and later with Winston County School System until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband John Mitchell West in 1978.

Survivors include, her daughter Angela West (Banks) Smith, Dothan; two grandchildren, Alexandria Smith and Banks Thomas Smith, Jr.; her brother, Aubrey (Ginner) Hopson; two nephews, Mitch Nelson and Aaron Hopson.
