DOTHAN. . .Dorothy Joyce Brown, a resident of Dothan, died early Saturday morning, June 11, 2022, at her home after a short illness. She was 83.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 13, 2022, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Jud Waldrop officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
A Valentines’ baby, Mrs. Brown was born February 14, 1939 in Dothan to the late F. Howard Blissett and Nellie Mae Hudspeth Blissett. She was a 1957 graduate of Cottonwood High School where she was a cheerleader. Mrs. Brown was a bookkeeper all of her adult life in Miami, Florida and Dothan. In Dothan, she worked at Hertz Rent-A-Car, W. D. Williams Motor Company and retired as the bookkeeper for Blissett Construction and Realty and Manager of Alexander Court Apartments. Mrs. Brown was an active member of Christian Lighthouse Church for many years, but was recently affiliated with Rainbow Meadows Baptist Church. She served as a “Second Mother” to her siblings and a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews who all affectionately called her “Aunt Dotty”. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald G. Blissett, a sister, Linda Blissett Prudhomme, and a niece, Kelli Ohm Trammell, a special cousin, Ann Murray Eddins.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Ronald L. Brown, Dothan; a sister, Mary Nell Dodd (Eddie), Abbeville; sisters-in-law, Mona Merle Blissett, Dothan; and Cindy Hunsacker (Moe), Ridgecrest, California; two brothers, Jimmy Blissett (Margaret), Abbeville; and Johnny Ray Blissett (Patty), Dothan; a step-daughter, Victoria Brown, Abbeville; a step-son, Ronald Brown, Jr. (Nan), Abbeville; step-grandchildren, Hayden Murphy (Michael), Shelby Eiland (Austin), Matthew Brown (Sara), James Brown and Colin Brown; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and step-great-grandchildren.
