Dorothy Mae Young
Dorothy Mae “Dot” Young, of Abbeville, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at her home. She was 66.
Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 912 States Avenue, Dothan with Brother Robert Bivens officiating.
Dot was born June 22, 1948 to Hardy and Gertrude Young. After graduating high school, she moved to New Jersey and lived most of her life there. She moved back to Abbeville around 2003 and for the last 5 years has served as “Foster Grandma” to the preschoolers in Abbeville.
Dot was baptized as one of Jehovah's witnesses on February 8, 2006 at the age of 57 and was a member of Dothan's North Congregation. She was a firm woman and she meant what she said. She loved music and dancing, but loved her daughter and grandchildren more. Most important to her was her love for Jehovah. He gave her the great determination and strength she needed to fight her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 7 siblings, Hardy C. Young, Floyd Young, Annie M. Johnson, C.W. Crews, Haywood Crews, Johnny C. Crews, and Arthur Crews.
Survivors include her daughter, Joszet Jackson and her husband Timothy; four grandchildren, Keirah C. Peterman, Timiya J. Jackson, Taliah D. Jackson, and KyRee F. Jackson; one great-granddaughter, Nolah K. Carter; two sisters, Emma Grable and Janet Anglin; four brothers, Clarence Young, Mitchell Young, Richard Young and Will Crews; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the North Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 912 States Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303 in the name of Dorothy Young.
