HOLMAN ABBEVILLE MORTUARY
DOROTHY SPIVEY SPARKMAN
BAKER HILL, ALABAMA. . .Dorothy Spivey (Dot) Sparkman, a resident of Baker Hill, Alabama, died Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013, in the Noland Hospital Birmingham. She was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in the Prospect Baptist Church, (County Road 43, Clayton) with Reverend Hollis Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Wednesday in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect Baptist Church, c/o Judy Hamm, 415 Hagler Mill Road, Louisville, AL 36048 or to the Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Nannie Mae Hartzog, 1034 County Road 43, Clayton, AL 36016.
Mrs. Sparkman was born in the Pine Level community of Barbour County, daughter of the late George Bennett Spivey and Minnie Gaye Bryan Spivey. She was a 1948 graduate of Louisville High School. Mrs. Sparkman formerly lived near Texasville before moving to Baker Hill in 1976. She was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church. Mrs. Sparkman was retired as the owner and operator of Dot’s Beauty Shop, near Texasville. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Harrell Bong, a son-in-law, George Harrell, Jr. and a special aunt, Addie Boyd.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Dalman Lee Sparkman, Baker Hill; a son, Dr. Oscar Bennett Turner, Huntsville; a son-in-law, Jerry Bong, Hunstville; a step-son, Dale Sparkman and wife, Rosie, Luling, TX; a step-daughter, Sharon Evans, Rockwell, TX; two grandchildren, George (Trey) Harrell, III and wife, Cassie; and Shayna Lynn Turner; a step-grandchild, Marena Harrell.
