Dorothy Willene (Hutto) Bailey, 90, a resident of Clayton passed away, Friday, June 14, 2024, at her home with family by her side following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2024, at Friendly Assembly of God Church with Reverend Ronnie & Nina Benefield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Glover Funeral Home of Clayton directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Dorothy was born June 10, 1934, in Geneva County to the late Sandy Z. & Lottie (Seay) Hutto. During the early years of her life, her family moved to Barbour County. She attended Baker Hill High School, and later married William Alvin Benefield, and together they had six children. Dorothy devoted her life to the ministry for over 20 years in Barbour County, and hosted a ministry radio show in the early 1960’s. She worked at Van Heusen as a factory worker for many years and considered herself a homemaker. Dorothy was known as the family cook and for her love of raising her family and enjoyed singing. She was a member of Friendly Assembly of God Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, William Alvin Benefield; her first born, Maryann Benefield; her second born, Daniel Alvin Benefield; her sixth born, Deborah Kaye (Benefield) Toole; her daughter-in-law, Leah Benefield; her three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Garnie Ray Bailey of Clayton; three sons, Ronnie Benefield (Nina), Donnie Benefield, and David Benefield (Debbie) all of Clayton; daughter, Diana Bailey of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Jeanette Woods (Smith), and Barbara Andrews both of Eufaula; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their love and care given to their loved one during this very difficult time.
