Doug was born in Winter Garden, FL on July 10, 1951 to the late Floyd Edward Thompson, Sr. and the late Irmalee Marden Thompson.
He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1969 where he played football, basketball and ran track and field. He was the owner of Diamond T Thompson Nursery until he retired in 2006. He spent his free time hunting deer and arrowheads when he was younger, until he discovered golf. After the discovery you could track him to any golf course within a 50 mile radius. He earned the nickname “Sweet Swinging Doug Thompson” on his beloved greens. He was a member of the West Orange Country Club until he moved to Geneva, AL and then became a member of the River Oaks Golf Course. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face and a diet coke in hand. He was a wonderful story and joke teller.

He is survived by his five children; Lara Dale (Jimmy) of Geneva, AL; Lisa Hammock (Craig) of Geneva, AL; Bubba Thompson (Kaley) of Cullman, AL; Katie Thompson of Opp, AL; Maggie Thompson of Geneva, AL; 11 grandchildren, Colton Hammock of Fayetteville, NC; Jacob Horton (Christiana) of Groveland, FL; Savanna Hammock of San Diego, CA; Emily Dale (Kyle) of Geneva, AL; Lizzy Taylor (Alex) of Birmingham, AL; Shelby Hammock of Geneva, AL; Ella Dale of Geneva, AL; Cheyenne Hammock of Geneva, AL; Mason Holmes of Geneva, AL; Andie Thompson of Cullman, AL; Ripp Thompson of Cullman, AL; 3 great grandchildren, Luke Hammock of Fayetteville, NC; Emersyn Payden of San Diego, CA; Mack Horton of Groveland, FL; brother, Ted Thompson of Sandersville, GA; sister, Lynn Thompson of Geneva, AL;
