ASHFORD…Dr. Betty Wise Armstrong, a resident of Ashford, passed away Friday morning, December 3, 2021, at her home. She was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Ricky Plummer and Pastor Tony Deese officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the mortuary chapel. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church “Building Fund,” 3257 East Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.
Dr. Armstrong was born in Geneva County, daughter of the late Johnnie Benjamin Wise and Dora Mae McCall Wise. She was a graduate of Samson High School and received a B.S. Degree Summa Cum Laude in Elementary Education from Troy University. She received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Troy University at Dothan. Dr. Armstrong added certification on the Masters level in Administration and Supervision. She earned an Educational Specialist Degree from Troy University and received the Dean’s Award from the School of Education. Dr. Armstrong received her Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama in Administration of Higher Education. While employed as an Adjunct Faculty member at Troy University, she received an Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. While serving as Principal at Hidden Lake Elementary, she received the Principal Award for Quality and Excellence in Education, twice recognized by Who’s Who in American Education, and received recognition from the Exclusive Executive Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals. During Dr. Armstrong’s employment with Dothan City Schools, she served seven years at Selma Street, four years at Central Office, thirteen years as Principal of Cloverdale and ten years as Principal of Hidden Lake. Dr. Armstrong was preceded in death by her son, David Cary Armstrong, and a brother, Hulon Wise.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Cary Alexander Armstrong; her daughter, Donna Spurlock (Dwayne), Ashford; six grandchildren, Zachary Armstrong, Ben Armstrong (Tiffany), Lauren Wilcox, Josh Spurlock, Caleb Spurlock and Micah Spurlock; eight great-grandchildren, Gracie Armstrong, Aydin Armstrong, Faith Spurlock, Harper Wilcox, David Liam Armstrong, Asher Armstrong, Avery Armstrong and Reese Armstrong.
The family would like to express their appreciation to DaySpring Hospice, especially Sonia Hughes and Cagney Reeves, for the loving care and kindness shown to Dr. Armstrong during her illness.
