Brian Wiethop, 62, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Born in St. Louis, he spent much time working in the family greenhouse business. He became a doctor, in part, because as the youngest he was assigned cleaning out the dirt mixing machine which always left him covered head to toe in dirt. His far greater motivation was shaped by his high school, St. Louis University High, which stressed being a man for others. He was quick with humor to put others at ease. He valued family and people above all else, and his philosophy was to treat people the way he would want to be treated.

After 20 years of practicing endocrinology in St. Louis, he moved to Dothan, AL looking to practice medicine in a more personal way. Many of his patients have an incurable disease and he always sought to be a bright point in their lives, especially through humor. He enjoyed the slower pace, and the subtle differences of life in the south, but never managed to develop a liking for boiled peanuts or collard greens.  Serving as an usher at St. Columba Catholic Church gave him the opportunity to share his smile and humor with many others.

A memorial service will be held 10 AM Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at St. Columba Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the Narthex of the church from 8:45 to 9:45 am prior to this service.

The funeral service will be Friday, May 5, 2023 at 10 AM in St. Louis at Seven Holy Founders Catholic Church, 6737 S Rock Hill Rd, Affton, MO 63123. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. The family will receive friends in the Narthex of the church from 9 to 10 am prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W Main St., Dothan, AL 36301 or a donation to his beloved high school, St. Louis University High, 4970 Oakland Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.

Brian was born November 27, 1960 in St. Louis to Vernon and Dorothy Wiethop. He attended St. Louis University for his undergraduate degree where he met his wife on the first day of orientation. He then attended St. Louis University Medical School. He completed his Endocrinology Fellowship at Washington University. He began  private practice at North County Endocrinology in 1991. In 2011, he moved to Dothan, AL where he practiced with Dothan Medical Associates.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Wiethop, and his sister, Jean Heitz.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Rose Wiethop, his father, Vernon Wiethop, his brother Michael Wiethop, and three children: Brian Wiethop Jr (Malinda), Stephanie Deery (Conlan) and Erica Wiethop. He has 4 grandchildren: Brian G. Wiethop, Matthew Wiethop, Michelle Deery, Calleigh Deery.

Glover Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. (334) 699-3888. Please sign the guestbook online at www.gloverfuneral.com
