Dr. G. Sherman Johnson of Paxton, Florida passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014. He was 70.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 2, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Sherman Johnson was born May 3, 1943, in Geneva County, Alabama in the Lowery Community. He opened his practice in Paxton, Florida on March 5, 1965 and retired in 2007. He served for over 15 years on the Florida Chiropractic Association Board of Directors and as President of his State Association. He also served as Paxton City Council Chairman for over 30 years. He was the current Chairman of the Board of Healthmark Regional Medical Center in DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Dr. Johnson loved the outdoors, heavy equipment, and raising crops and cattle. He was an avid farmer and received the 1979 Alabama Peanut Farmer of the Year Award. He enjoyed finding solutions to complex problems and being able to lend a hand. He cherished his role as “Pa” to his grandchildren and was more than eager to assist his family with any outdoor project that needed his expertise. Dr. Johnson’s legacy of service to all is a hallmark for which he will be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his father, E. Tank Johnson, and a son, Billy Joe Johnson.
Survivors include Sandra Newell Johnson, Samson, AL; two daughters: Sharon Johnson Gaubert (Nolan), Pensacola, FL and Susan Johnson May (Earl), Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren: Lauren and Kristen Gaubert, Pensacola, FL and Casey and Abby May, Tallahassee, FL; mother, Reba Whigham Johnson, Kinston, AL; four brothers: Rodger Johnson (Edna), Wayne Johnson (Carol), David Johnson (Brenda), all of Kinston, AL and Dr. Joe Johnson (Karen), Paxton, FL; several special nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.
