It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Howard Russell Cook, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world peacefully in Dothan, Alabama. Dr. Cook, aged 75, will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family and community.

Born on September 14, 1948, in Dothan, Alabama, Dr. Cook was the son of the late Herbert and Durlie Cook. He is survived by his brother, Herbert Lanier Cook, of Dothan, AL and two children, James Lawrence Cook of Dothan, AL, and Laurie Cook Windham of Macon, GA. He was also a cherished grandfather to his two grandchildren, Ashton Windham II and Sloan Windham, both of Macon, Georgia. His face would light up at the sight of them, and he cherished every moment spent creating lasting memories.

Dr. Cook graduated from Auburn University College of Pharmacy before earning his degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He practiced medicine in private practice as H. Russell Cook, D.O., in Enterprise, Alabama and Ft. Rucker where he dedicated his life to the health and well-being of his patients. Dr. Cook passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at his home in Dothan, Alabama.

He faced great personal loss when he lost his beloved wife, Helen Lee Cook, to cancer many years ago. Their love story and the strength they shared continue to inspire those who knew them. Despite this heartache, Dr. Cook remained a pillar of strength for his family, embodying the qualities of love and perseverance.

A devoted Catholic, Dr. Cook found solace and purpose in his faith, which guided him throughout his life. His commitment to caring for others extended beyond his medical practice; he actively volunteered with various charities and his church, reflecting his deep compassion for those in need.

Dr. Cook’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Dane officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to celebrate Dr. Cook’s life.

Rest in peace, Howard Russell Cook. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten.
