Dr. James Wyatt Grimmer of Enterprise passed away peacefully at Flowers Hospital on October 20, 2012. Born April 25, 1930 in Dale County, Alabama, he was 82 years old.
A Korean War veteran, he was a graduate of Wicksburg High School. He earned BS and MS Degrees from Troy State University and EDS and EDD Degrees from the University of Georgia. After serving in various educational positions in Georgia and Alabama for 34 years, he retired from Troy State University Dothan in 1991 as Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 28 years, Dr. Mariah Faye Loftin Grimmer, he is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Charlotte James Grimmer. As an amazing and loving father and grandfather, he is also survived by three children: Lydia (Greg) Thigpen, Rhonda (Bill) Krafft and Brian (Jennifer) Grimmer; three grandchildren: Jonathan Daughtry, Mariah “Macey” Thigpen, and Abigayle Faye Grimmer; three step-children: Brett (Sarah) Hickman, Kim (Richard) McAlister, and Holly (Joel) Wallace; and ten step-grandchildren: Dylan, Donovan, Jason-Paul, Anna, Andrew, Christin, Rachel, London, Brock, and Colton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 23, 2012, in the Chapel of Searcy Funeral Home with Rev. James Nance officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 PM, Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Faye Grimmer Scholarship Fund at Enterprise State Junior College or to your favorite charity.
