DR. JOE M. “MIKE” SHIRAH
HEADLAND, AL… Dr. Joe M. “Mike” Shirah, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away Monday afternoon, November 8, 2021, at Hartford Healthcare. He was 71.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Dr. David Baker and Reverend Ryan Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the home of his brother, Tommy Shirah, 864 Bill Yance Road, Headland, Alabama 36345. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Bluff Springs Baptist Church, 1990 Bluff Springs Road, Ashford, Alabama 36312 or to the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 2220 Otis Buie Road, Webb, Alabama 36376.
Mr. Shirah was born in Dothan, Alabama to the late Joe Pruitt Shirah and Blondel Snellgrove Shirah. He received a Bachelor Degree in Theology from Baptist Bible Institute, a Master’s Degree in Theology from Troy State University, and a Doctorate Degree from Covington Theological Seminary. He served many churches over the years including Newville Baptist Church, Maple Avenue Baptist Church, and Bluff Springs Baptist Church. Bro. Mike loved the Lord and loved spreading the Gospel, but he was still a farmer and outdoorsman at heart. He was still affectionate about helping on the family farm and still had a passion for hunting with his brother and grandsons. He was a member of the Bluff Springs Baptist Church.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of almost fifty years, Beverly Outlaw Shirah; and his son, Jason Shirah.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his son, Jonathan Shirah; his sisters, Jolaine Chandler (Keith), Janet Owens (Calvin), and JoAnne McInnes; his brother, Tommy Shirah (Diane); his grandsons Jacob Shirah and Ethan Shirah; his sisters-in-law, Regina Espy, Vicki Outlaw, and Amy Outlaw; his brother-in-law, Rodney Outlaw (Kay), his several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Shirah, Brent Shirah, Dustin Owens, Ryan Outlaw, Nathan Outlaw, and Luke Stevens.
