Dr. John Harris Tamplin of Ozark,AL. died Sunday, September 27, 2015, at his home.  He was 79.


Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at First United Methodist Church of Ozark, AL. with Rev. Mike Sigler and Dr. Billy Gaither officiating.  Burial will follow in Westview cemetery with Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing.


The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening, September 28th, in the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church of Ozark.


Dr. Tamplin was preceded in death by his parents Annie Martha (Adams) and Louie Tamplin, his brother Louie Tamplin Jr., all of Ozark, and his cousin Amanda Adams Addington of Charleston, S.C.


Surviving relatives include his wife Marilyn Mathison Tamplin, daughter and son-in-law Marye Bess and Brent Browning, son Frank Mathison Tamplin, and the joys of his life , grandchildren Marye Grace, Anna Louise and Sara Harris Browning, and cousins Catherine Adams Waid of Dothan, Charlotte Adams Reeves of Eufaula and Joseph W. (Christine) Adams of Ozark.


Dr. Tamplin was born July 10, 1936, in Dothan, AL.  He graduated from Dale County High School in 1954 where he was very active in the scouting program, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.  He attended Auburn University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity and Alpha Psi veterinary fraternity.  He graduated in 1961 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.  After serving as an officer in the Army, John returned to Ozark to join Dr. J. P. Faust and later Dr. Bob Snell at Ozark Veterinary Clinic, where he practiced for over 40 years, retiring in 2005.


John was an active, life-long member of First United Methodist Church of Ozark.  He enjoyed his association with the Ozark Rotary Club, where he served as president and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award.  He was a long-time member and past president of Vivian B. Adams Board of directors and the Commercial Bank of Ozark Board of Directors. His true passion was serving on the Board of Trustees of Dale Medical Center for over 25 years and chairman of the hospital board for over 20 years. Dr. Tamplin was named Alabama Hospital Associations 2004 Trustee of the year for his devoted service to the health care community.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Vivian B. Adams School, 2047 Stuart Tarter Road, Ozark, AL 36360.
