OZARK. . . Dr. Myra Earlene Murray Woodham, age 81, a resident of Ozark, was called home to be with her Heavenly Father, Saturday night, June 3, 2023.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 11, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Timothy Davis and Elder Clayton Nowell officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, near Headland. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Primitive Baptist Church, P.O. Box 401, Headland, AL 36345 or Ozark Baptist Church, 282 South Union Avenue, Ozark, AL 36360.


            Born August 23, 1941 and reared in Abbeville, Alabama, Earlene was the daughter of the late Myer Loeb Murray and Nellie Morgan Murray. She was a1959 graduate of Abbeville High School and graduated from the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing in 1961. In December of 1962, Earlene married the love of her life, Billy Edsel Woodham and together raised a family in Ozark.


            In 1970, she joined the faculty at Wallace College of Dothan as a Nursing Instructor. Staying active and furthering her education was very important as she later earned her BS and Masters Degrees in Nursing from Troy University. In 1995, she earned her PhD in Administration of Higher Education from the University of Alabama. After thirty-four years, she retired to enjoy gardening, traveling and being with family.


            During her career, Dr. Woodham made her mission to not only teach nursing skills, but mentor her students to be mindful of respecting the patient while being diligent in their duties. She was a caring, compassionate teacher, mentor and friend to many and a member of the Ozark Baptist Church. She was “Nana” to four grandchildren who enjoyed her laughter, creativity, cooking, and kindness. Most of all, Earlene was loved, respected, and revered by her late husband, Edsel.


            Dr. Woodham was preceded in death by husband, Edsel Woodham, a brother, Nick Murray, and two sisters, Ruby Nell Stinson and Guinevere Hall-Davidson


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Wendy Renee’ Woodham, Ozark; and Amy DeLane Woodham Saliba and husband, Ray Saliba, Madison, AL; grandchildren, Morgan Saliba, Kathlene Saliba, Natalie Saliba and Alexander Saliba, a great-grandson to be born in September 2023; a sister-in-law, Winnie Murray, Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Dr. Bruce Hall, Kenny Murray, Ray Stinson, Sam Stinson, Matt Hall, Benjamin McSwean, Alexander Saliba and David Dennis.
