Durwood Ross Chappell, 65, of Dothan went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 9, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Friday, August 17, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Plummer officiating. Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.

Mr. Chappell was born May 1, 1947 in Dothan, AL and lived most of his life here. He was a graduate of Rehobeth High School and was a graduate of Wallace College. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired Master Sheet Metal Specialist in the construction of nuclear plants and was part of the team that built Farley Nuclear Plant. Mr. Chappell was of Baptist Faith and at one time was an active member of the church choir. He loved to minister the word of God to those he met in all walks of life. He enjoyed working out and loved to fish.

He is survived by his son Robert Chappell of Dothan; daughter Carla (Brian) Ammons of Atlanta, GA; 3 beautiful grandchildren, Joshua Purswell, Amber Davis, and Delicia Grier; a brother Johnny (Maxine) Chappell of Dothan; a sister Faye Martin; a sister Christine Barb; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
