Dwight "Pop" Edsel Hulgan, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully Oct. 3, 2014 at his residence in Geneva, Ala.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Geneva with the Pastor Jake Brady officiating.  Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  Serving as honorary pallbearers are C.L Harvey, Herman Trauha, David Rea, and Andy Turner. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or to the First Methodist Church of Geneva.


Mr. Hulgan was born January 03, 1928 in DeKalb County, Ala. to the late Jesse and Effie Hulgan. He was a WWII era Navy veteran, a former Assistant Geneva County Agent, FFA leader, Lifetime member of the VFW, an accomplished bridge player, fervent fisherman and a long time member of First United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer with 4 holes-in-one and a proud supporter of the Auburn Alumi Association / Auburn football, graduating from Auburn's predecessor Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a B.S in agriculture.  Pop was best known as a retired salesman of the Mississippi Chemical Corporation and was very proud to be considered a friend and co-worker of the late comedian Jerry Clower.


He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-nine years, Alline B. Hulgan, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his sister Verona Marbut; one daughter, Karen Hulgan Adams; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight E. "Eddie" Hulgan, Jr. (Patricia), Jesse T. "Tom" Hulgan (Cheryl) and Donald M. Hulgan (Cynthia); 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
