HEADLAND. . .E J Baker, a former resident of Headland, died Wednesday morning, October 16, 2019, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 19, 2019, in the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Ralph Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in northern Henry County. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Mr. Baker was born and reared in Early County, Georgia, near Blakely, son of the late William Carlie Baker and Eva Mae Barr Baker. He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1955 until 1958. Mr. Baker was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville. In earlier years, he was employed by Robinette Industries of Blakely as a furniture frame manufacturer. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Baker, a sister, Edna Baker and a brother, Jesse Earl Baker.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Eloise Cannon Baker; a daughter, Susan Baker Kemp (Michael), Headland; a son, Christopher Baker (Michelle), Blakely, GA; a sister, Avis Gilbert, Jakin, GA; a brother, Reverend Ralph Baker, Texasville; five grandchildren, Alex Baker, Ashley Baker, Paul Lay (Angela), Blake Lay and Shelby Kemp; three great-grandchildren, Khloe Lay, Isaiah Lay and Emma Skelton.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Paul Baker, Destin Baker, Blake Lay, Steve Baker, Michael Hammock and Alex Baker.
