Earl Duncan Laing
Earl Duncan Laing, 81 of Dothan passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Henry County Health and Rehabilitation. He was the loving husband of Darla Fillingham Laing. The shared 61 years together.
Earl was born on March 27, 1936 to the Reverend Robert Kellock Laing and Myrtle McDowell Laing of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Chaleroi High School in Charleroi, Pennsylvania and went on to earn a B.S. Degree in Geology from Waynesburg College. Earl was an accomplished musician and attended Waynesburg College on a bagpiping scholarship. In 1959 Earl moved his family to Eufaula to work at Harbison-Walker as the superintendent of mines. He later joined the investment firm A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc. and served as branch manager. In 1985 he accepted the position of Regional Officer for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc. He served in this position until he retired to the beautiful Kamuela, Hawaii.
Earl was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Dothan Rotary Club where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was a Master Mason and member of Harmony Lodge in Eufaula. He loved tennis and was an avid quail hunter.
He is survived by his spouse, Darla Fillingham Laing, his children, Robert Alan Laing (Dana), Gaye Laing Stowers (Tim), Craig Duncan Laing, Katie Laing Holland (Bill), grandchildren, Earl Duncan Laing, II, Christian Riales Laing, Nathan Robert Laing, Ansley Rae Laing, Mary Laing Holland and Elizabeth Anne Holland; great-grandchild, Robert Watson Laing. He was preceded in death by father and mother.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Sanders officiating and being directed by the Directors at Family First Funeral Care. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301, C/O Respite Care Ministry for families living with memory loss.
A special thanks to the entire staff in the memory care unit at Henry County Health and Rehabilitation for incredible love and care provided over the past five years.
