Date: A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30-11 am.

Earl Gray “Buddy” Pitman, Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at his residence. He was 88 years old.


A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sunset Memorial Park directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9:30-11 am. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.


Mr. Pitman was born on October 10, 1932 in Mobile, Alabama and lived in Dothan all of his life. He was a graduate of Dothan High School and Howard College, now known as Samford University in 1954 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Mr. Pitman was a Veteran in the US Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of Dothan Glass Company for many years. Mr. Pitman was a dedicated and loving family man. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and watching grandchildren play soccer. He was a faithful member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School Class, he was a member of the choir, served as deacon, and was there most every time the doors were opened ready to serve. Mr. Pitman was a member of the Dothan Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and other various civic organizations.


Mr. Pitman was preceded in death by his parents, Earl, Sr. and Audrey Chenoweth Pitman, his brother, Tommy Pitman, and his sister, Pat Pitman McClendon.


Survivors include his wife, Delayne Riley Pitman; his son, Earl (Dewane) Pitman, III, Dothan; his daughter, Dr. Pamela Pitman (Wayne) Brown, Albany, GA; his 7 grandchildren, Riley Pitman (Doug) Olney of Birmingham, AL, Thompson Pitman of Dothan, Millie Pitman of Dothan, J. T. Spivey of South Africa, Layne Brown of Mobile, Ava Brown of Albany, GA, and Audrey Brown of Albany, GA; his sister, Joy Pitman (Doug) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.


Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jack Carpenter, John Beasley, Wayne Smith, Mayon Sewell, Louie Grimes, Wayne Eidson, Johnny Oppert, Tom McLendon, Doug Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Jack Stuckey, Bob Page, and Mr. Pitman’s Sunday School Class.
