ABBEVILLE. . .Eddie Douglas “Ed” Johnston, a resident of Abbeville, died Saturday, March 25, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 85.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2023, in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend George Bryan officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mr. Johnston was born in Dothan, Alabama, son of the late James Douglas Johnston and Hettie Robinson Johnston. He was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Johnston Warnberg. Mr. Johnston was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Mean Man”.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Mark Johnston (Wendy), Washburn, TN; Maxwell Godwin, Sharps Chapel, TN; and Bradley Johnston; two sisters, India Belisle and Paula Jane Pettit, both of Panama City; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnston, Lance Johnston, Maranda Gresham, Bridgette Johnson, Sara Book and Donnie Godwin, five great-grandchildren.
