Eddie L. “Gator” Day passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He was 84 years old.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dustin Wise officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva, AL directing.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Piney Grove Baptist Church “Old Cemetery Fund”, c/o, Kate Strickland 108 South Broad Street, Samson, AL 36477.

Mr. Day was born in Coffee County, AL on May 27, 1940, to the late James Jackson and Maggie Esther Harbuck Day. Eddie graduated from Samson High School in 1958. He owned and operated a hog farm and feed mill in the 1970’s. He also served and retired from the Alabama National Guard. After retirement, he went to work with his brother, Robert in the construction business working as an electrician.  

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Sumblin, Grace Weeks, and Ruth Wise; three brothers, Maurice, Robert, and Donald Day; nieces and nephews, Michaela Day Jackson, Dianne Day Welty, Chad Robert Day, Matthew Day Sumblin, Kim Knowles McNeill, and an infant niece.

He is survived by many special nieces and nephews, Andy Sumblin (Ann), Tim Sumblin (Susan), Rocky Sumblin (Vickie), Allen Weeks (Christy), Jimmy Wise (Teresa), Rita Bonds (Edsel), Janie Rials (Bill), Candance Hargraves, Donna Day Watson (William), Lee Knowles (Jane), Kris Knowles Patterson (Clay), Beth Knowles Brinley (Chuck), Lenora Stanley, and Norma Healy (Bill); numerous great nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Neal Weeks, and Clint Bryant.
