Edgar Turner Killebrew, Jr., a resident of Abbeville, died early Tuesday morning, November 24, 2015, at his home. He was 90.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2015, in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Ryan Johnson, Kenton Killebrew and Bobby Joe Espy officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. Killebrew was born in Shorterville and moved with his family to Abbeville as a child. He received a Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany while serving in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Killebrew was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was engaged in farming all his life and was a former member of the Soil Conservation Board. Mr. Killebrew was one of the founders of Abbeville Christian Academy and formerly served on the Henry County Hospital Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Turner Killebrew, Sr. and Annie Long Wood Killebrew, son, Edgar Stanley (Stan) Killebrew, a brother, Ralph Lanier Killebrew, and a sister, Edith Killebrew Latimer.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Gussye Arnold Killebrew, a daughter, Alison Killebrew Suddarth (Chris), Dothan; a son, Kent Killebrew, Headland; nine grandchildren, Kerrie Killebrew Money, Kenton Killebrew (Haley), Kyle Killebrew (Kasey), Shanna Killebrew, Skylar Killebrew, Susan Killebrew, Matt Suddarth, Claire Suddarth and Clay Suddarth; five great-grandchildren, Samuel and Parker Money, Norah Killebrew, Lawson Killebrew and Audrey Killebrew; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Kenton Killebrew, Kyle Killebrew, Matt Suddarth, Bobby Joe Espy, Jon Latimer, Lester H. Killebrew, Jack Reynolds , Bill Mills, and Dr. Steve Stokes.
The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Narcis Sanders, Carolyn Hobdy, Sallie Chappell, Nina Kinsey, Gloria Robinson, Gentiva Hospice, and Dr. Steve Stokes for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Killebrew during his illness.
