The wonderful life of Edna Earl (Pouncey) Lane moved from earth to heaven on June 4, 2014. She was 93. Edna was born in Enterprise, AL on October 25, 1920 and was raised in Clayhatchee as the oldest of six children of Earl and Annie Pouncey. Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Wilburn Graves Lane, sister, Aurelia Skidmore, and brother, Harry Pouncey.
Mrs. Lane worked for the Federal Land Bank during her twenties and early thirties but quit work to become a homemaker when her daughter, Joyce, was born. Edna loved being involved in school activities and was a vital part of PTA serving in many offices. She also loved flowers and gardening. Edna was instrumental in bringing appreciation of flowers to the Wiregrass. Mrs. Lane served as president of her garden club and won many awards at various flower shows.
Edna was also very involved in First Baptist Church of Dothan where she served as a Sunday School teacher for young women. She loved her “girls” and became a friend to all.
Edna was recognized for her civic and church activities in 1968 when she was awarded the prestigious “Woman of the Year” for the City of Dothan.
More than anything, Edna loved her family and she showed it every day of her life. She had a special place in her heart for her sisters and brother as well as unconditional love for her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandson.
Mrs. Lane is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and John Farish; grandson, Lt. Jesse Earl Kelley (wife Jennina); granddaughter, Jennifer Louise Farish; great-grandson, Jayden Lee Kelley; sister, Anna Harris (Enterprise); sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Pierce Baker (Enterprise); sister, Margaret Moskau (New Orleans); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Margie Lane; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stockwell; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Rhonda Fisher, caregiver and friend. Edna loved her so much.
Services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, June 7th at First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, with burial immediately afterward at Memory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, June 6th from 5 PM to 7 PM at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
