Elaine Mezick Martin, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was 70 years old. Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 25, 2022 in The Dothan Area Botanical Gardens Gazebo. Resting place will be at a later date in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Clayhatchee, Alabama.
Elaine Martin was born August 14, 1951, in Opelika, AL to Doris Donnell Mezick and Paul Mezick. Raised on her family’s farm in Clayhatchee, Alabama, she graduated from Daleville High School as Salutatorian with honors and was president of her Student Government Association. Mrs. Martin received her B.S. and M.B.A. from Troy University, graduating with honors, and worked as an Accountant and Educator in the Wiregrass area. Elaine was the co-owner of Mark Donnell Sand Company, and Mark Donnell Farm, located in Clayhatchee, Alabama. While living in Dothan, Elaine served as a board member and treasurer for the Dothan Jaycees and the Houston County Junior Miss Scholarship Program. Elaine served as a volunteer with many organizations in Dothan, including The March of Dimes, Alzheimer’s Resource Center, and Friends of the Library at the Houston Love Memorial Library. An avid lover of arts and music, Elaine loved visiting museums and tourist destinations across the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed gardening and preferred to be outdoors. A close follower of politics, she frequently attended political events at both the state and national capital. A lifelong learner, Elaine loved reading books, putting together puzzles, following both local and national newspapers, arts and crafts projects, British comedy television, and shopping. Elaine loved her family and friends dearly and was an extraordinarily loving mother. She, and her witty sense of humor will be missed dearly. Elaine took her work ethic very seriously and believed in putting her all into the projects she was passionate about.
Survivors include her mother, Doris Mezick, and daughter, Olivia Alexis Martin. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial may be made to the Dothan Houston County Library System at www.dhcls.org.
