FT. GAINES, GEORGIA. . .Elder Ross Plowden, a resident of Ft. Gaines, Georgia, died early Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018, in a Dothan hospital. He was 76.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. (E.D.T.) Friday, April 6, 2018, in the Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Edison, Georgia, with Elder Bridgman Harris and Elder Paul Evans officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. (E.D.T.) Friday in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Prospect Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Elder James Dixon, 108 Carimar Place, Headland, AL 36345.
Elder Plowden was born and reared in Ft. Gaines where he lived most of his lifetime. He was a graduate of the Clay County High School in Ft. Gaines. Elder Plowden served his country in the U. S. Air Force in the early 1960’s. He was formerly employed by Anderson Construction Co. as a Maintenance Foreman. In earlier years, he was employed by Georgia Pacific and International Paper Company in Mississippi. Elder Plowden was an ordained Primitive Baptist Elder and was currently serving as the Pastor of the New Prospect Primitive Baptist Church in the Brown’s Crossroads Community of Henry County. He formerly served as Pastor of Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church and Olive Grove Primitive (Rock Pond) Baptist Church. Elder Plowden was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Clifton Plowden, Sr. and Mary Sanderlin Plowden and a daughter, Amanda Lynn Plowden.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-one years, Marcia Kelly Plowden; three daughters, Kelly Plowden, Thomasville, GA; Wendy Adams (Lee), Ft. Gaines; and Breanna Plowden (Harley Westrick), Daleville, AL; three sons, Vann Plowden (Kristina), Cumming, GA; Shane Plowden (Michael Gaines), Dothan; and Logan Plowden, Ft. Gaines; five grandchildren, Alyssa Adams, Cade Schroeder, Peyton Williams, Christian Schroeder and Grace Plowden; numerous nieces and nephews.
