Mrs. Elizabeth Enfinger Cannon, 81, of Dothan, Alabama died early morning June 23, at a local Dothan hospital after a brief illness.

Elizabeth Enfinger Cannon was born July 4, 1936 in Houston County, Alabama. The daughter of the late A. D. Enfinger and Rossie Grice Enfinger, Elizabeth was the youngest of four children. In 1956, she moved to Dothan, Alabama and married Denson Reese Cannon, son of the late Leila and Warren Denson Cannon; the remained wed until his death in 2002. She was employed with J. C. Penney for 23 years until her retirement in 1997. Elizabeth had a lifelong passion for reading and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death not only by her parents and husband, but also her brother, Morris J. Enfinger; and both sisters, Mary Enfinger Thompson and Mildred Enfinger Fountain.

Survivors include her three children; Sharon (Arlen) Adams of Smiths Station, Alabama, Lisa Cannon (Charles) Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ward Denson Cannon of Huntington Beach, California. Also surviving her are three granddaughters, Jessica Adams, Laura Adams, and Alix Taylor; her grandson, Miles Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. Her self-assured determination lives on through them.

At her request, a family gathering, will be held to scatter her ashes over the Gulf of Mexico. Elizabeth loved the Gulf’s famous blue waters, and asked to be put to rest in the softly lapping waves where she found peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org
