Elizabeth Garie “Betsy” Keyton, a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Extendicare Health Center. She was 63 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Dothan City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Betsy was born May 17, 1955 in Jacksonville, FL and moved to Dothan in 1970 where she was a 1973 graduate of Dothan High School. She attained a degree in Speech Pathology from the Auburn University in 1977 and went on to receive her Master’s in Audiology from University of Alabama as well. She furthered her studies and attained her BSN degree from UAB in 1993 and went on to work with Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham in the neonatal unit for several years.
Betsy also worked as a missionary for His Lamb’s International in Romania, serving in orphanages caring for teenage girls. While in Romania she founded the Widows Mite Foundation which sought financial assistance for widows. She moved back to Dothan and worked with Southeast Health until her retirement in 2017. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and her life’s passion was travel and photography.
Survivors include her brother, John Arthur (Christy) Keyton, III; sister, Joyce Keyton (Robin) Cary; aunt, Betty Ann Weissinger; nieces and nephews, Kaitlin Elizabeth Wagner, Rachel Pearson Wagner, John Arthur Keyton, IV (Beverly), Matthew Wood Keyton (Linnea), William Gilbert Keyton, Jordan Thomas Keyton, Mary Elizabeth Keyton, Katherine Joyce Keyton, Pearson Edward Keyton, and Hannah Grace Keyton; great nephew, Oliver Keyton.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Dothan High School 1973 graduating class.
