A gathering in the gardens to worship the Lord and honor Libby’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 2 p.m. at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be sent to Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, 110 Harmony Lane, Dothan, AL 36202, or to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, 1705 S Holtzclaw Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.

Joy has come in the morning! Jesus welcomed Elizabeth (Libby) Coker Lee, age 82 of Dothan, Alabama home on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

Libby was one of three children of Joseph Howard and Lois Bernell Coker of Wicksburg, Alabama. Libby married James Michael (Mike) Lee, a Dothan architect, and they quickly grew into a family of five with one son and two daughters. Life was wonderfully full. Mike and Libby attended First Presbyterian Church of Dothan. What began as church attendance for Mike and Libby quickly became redeemed lives of worship of Christ, warm fellowship, and faithful service. Libby’s joy in Jesus, her way with children, and her gift of teaching enabled her to share the love of the Lord with many. Over the years, Libby faithfully led and taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible studies, and Girl Scouts all while raising three children to know Jesus as their Savior. God used Libby’s giftedness to bless hundreds of children and families over the 16 years she served as the Director of First Presbyterian’s Preschool program. Upon retiring, Libby continued to pour into children primarily as “Gram” to her five grandchildren and additionally as a staunch advocate for children through the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center. In her later years, she delighted in the joyful fellowship of the Dust Covered Disciples and friends at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. In 1997 she joined Mike as office manager at his architectural firm, J. Michael Lee Associates, until the time of Mike’s death in 2011. She lived out the remainder of her years in Birmingham, enjoying her children and grandchildren. To God be the glory for the life of Libby Lee.

Libby is survived by her two daughters: Mendy Lee Wright (Walker) and Dimity Lee Leath (Alex) of Birmingham, and five grandchildren: Guthrie Hogan Leath (Taylor), Lily Mims Leath, Emmie Douglas Leath, Sullivan Douglas Wright, and Adelaide Elizabeth Wright, all of Birmingham. Libby is preceded in death by her husband, James Michael Lee, her son, James Douglas Killingsworth, Jr., her parents, Joseph Howard and Lois Bernell Coker, her sister Linda Coker Durkan (Jack), and her brother, Joseph Howard Coker, Jr. In addition, Libby leaves behind dear family members and friends who will miss her loving spirit. The family expresses deep love and immense gratitude to “The Sisters,” Chrissy, Kellee, and Monica Harris who tenderly loved Libby (whom they affectionately called “Shug”) through their diligent and compassionate friendship and service.
